History:
Sherry was born in 1986 to Umbrella virologists, William Birkin and Annette Birkin. At the time, her family lived in the midwestern town of Raccoon City, a city completely under the control of Umbrella Corporation and often found themselves more involved in their work than paying much attention to their daughter. So where Sherry would have ideally wanted a normal childhood, she found herself rather neglected and under the care of babysitters than her own parents causing a great deal of strain as she grew up. But, her parents were still there enough to express their own sort of tough love towards young Sherry, still celebrating certain events such as her birthday while teaching her the importance of stranger danger to avoid those who sought to exploit using Sherry as leverage.
Sometime after Sherry turned 11, a viral outbreak broke out in Raccoon City of which Sherry was a survivor being under the care and protection of Claire Redfield as well as Leon Kennedy. Unfortunately, the event led to the loss of her parents, one of which was William who was mutated to the point of no longer being human and the one to cause Sherry to start a process of mutating with the implantation of a G-virus embryo due to their relation. Eventually, Sherry was given the antidote that cured her of the G-virus, for the most part. Her, Claire, and Leon escaped Raccoon City and Sherry eventually found herself taken into government custody for the remainder of her younger life, primarily under the guardianship of Derek C. Simmons.
In the following years, tests were conducted ensuring Sherry was truly cured, finding not only did she have G-virus antibodies but the virus still flourished in a way it made her superhuman still. These tests were painful, but felt necessary to ensure she would not be the cause of a viral outbreak or become a monster like her father. By 2009, the biggest threat Sherry had to worry about was eventually eliminated when Albert Wesker was defeated that year by Chris Redfield, Sheva Alomar, Jill Valentine, and Josh Stone, allowing Sherry to leave protective custody of which she had come of age by then. Feeling a need to make a difference in her own way, Sherry became a government agent as part of the DOA hoping to follow in the footsteps of Claire and Leon. Working directly under Simmons, one of Sherry's first major assignments was the finding and retrieval of Jake Muller in Edonia.
Upon arriving in Edonia, Sherry tracked down Jake and convinced the mercenary to come with her for the price of $50 million. The unlikely partnership between the two led them through a series of encounters with the j'avo and Ustanak, as well as crossing paths with the likes of Chris Redfield, Piers Nivans, and their team, helping them to take down two larger C-virus experiments known as Ogremen. Once the dust had settled for the time being, Chris arranged a ride back to the United States via helicopter, a ride that would go awry when Ustanak and Neo-Umbrella attacked the BSAA escort, resulting in a brief aerial struggle. The result was to loss of their escorts and free fall through the snowy mountains, only for Sherry to find herself transported to Jenesis.
