Mario woke up in a daze. He had no idea what had happened, but he was no longer in the Mushroom Kingdom anymore. He was surrounded by steps that stretched across the walls of the tower and glowing blue symbols. He didn't know what any of it meant, but he saw a door and decided to go outside of it.
Outside he found the Crystal Expanse and felt the cold climate that came with it. He squealed and then began his search for intelligent life. Wanting to find somebody, anybody, who could tell him where he was.
"Hello? Anyone out there? Mama mia!"

"You there! Over here!"
Haruka's voice came from behind Mario's position and back at the entrance of the tower. Haruka had appeared inside the tower too and made her way out of it to the expanse pass the exit of the tower. She saw Mario in the distance and decided to call out to him. Hoping that he would have some answers for her.
"What is this place? Who are you?"

Mario heard a voice call out to him and at first he almost thought it was the Princess, but it turned out to be some random woman he had never met before. But this was what he wanted. Intelligent life to speak to and figure things out with. He approached the girl and looked up to the rather tall woman who asked her question.
"I'm Mario, and I don't know what this place is. It seems weird. There's nothing but ice for miles and this tower. Who put it here?"
Mario wondered what kind of world they have landed in. It wasn't his first time falling into a strange new world, but last time in the Mushroom Kingdom he had his brother Luigi with him. This time he was alone, and this was one adventure he didn't want to tackle solo.

Haruka knelt down to a knee to be eye-level with Mario as he was rather a short guy and Haruka was much taller by comparison. Haruka didn't care much about men, but just this once she would be friendly.
"Your name's Mario, huh? My name's Haruka. I'm looking for my daughter Hotaru. Have you seen her? Short black hair, purple eyes, very mysterious."
Haruka had to find Hotaru. She knew Hotaru had been swept away by a bright light just like she had been a few seconds prior. She couldn't return home to Earth without Hotaru by her side. She just couldn't face Michiru until then.

"No I haven't. I can't even find my younger brother Luigi. Yay high, green hat, blue overalls, similar mustache."
Mario was worried about his brother and the Princess. Were they swept away by the same means that brought him here too? If so then where could they be? He would have to find them. If he could find them. Maybe this woman could be of help.
"Nevertheless, it's a pleasure to see a friendly face. Maybe we can help each other out by looking for each other's respective family members."

Haruka only shook her head at the description.
"I'm sorry, but I haven't seen anyone that fits that description, but I agree. We can help each other out."
Haruka was willing to take all the help she could get right now. She was in the middle of nowhere and it was cold. Haruka could imagine Hotaru lost and alone and scared. She had to find her. No matter what.
"Let's go."
Haruka then proceeded to walk forward on top of the ice.

Mario only lowered his head and sighed.
"I didn't think you did see him, but thanks anyway. Let's get going."
Mario stuck by Haruka's side as they traveled across the ice of the expanse. He looked around the dark skies and called out, "Luigi!? Luigi, are you there!?"
He was hoping to find his younger brother soon, but what if he wasn't transported here? What if Luigi was still back in Mushroom Kingdom with the Princess wondering where he was. What if this time Mario had to travel the new world by himself?

"Hotaru!? Hotaru where are you!?"
It didn't seem like calling out would work. They were nowhere in sight and the ice stretched on for what felt like days. Was there even anything left on this world to find? Or was it all doomed to be ice and snow? Haruka had to keep hope alive that something was out there.
"How long do you think this ice goes on for?"

"I don't know. I've been in winter wonderlands before, but something seems different about this place."
Mario then tripped over his own two feet and landed face first into the ice. He lifted his face up and then he saw it. The image of an entire city frozen deep within the ice. Mario shot up to his feet and pointed down at the ice floor.
"Mama mia! Look! There are people down there!"

Haruka looked down to the ice floor and saw what Mario saw. An entire city frozen in time. It was as wonderful as it was terrible. What happened to this city to make it frozen underneath the ice like that?
"This place is getting too weird. The sooner we find somebody who knows what they're talking about the better."

"I agree. Let's get out of this place!"
Mario advanced forward, but before he could go any further a four legged white ice monster approached the two. It snarled and growled at them as Mario looked around for any weapons or power ups, but none was in sight. Mario closed his fists and got ready for a battle.
"It looks like we'll have to fight."
