History:
Artemis is the youngest daughter of infamous villains, Sportsmaster and Huntress, a married duo of the past before things went wrong on one job, leaving Paula to take the fall for her husband and imprisoned for six years as well as becoming paraplegic. Due to this, Lawrence took custody of his two daughters and was emotionally and physically abusive to the two, pushing them to take part in a physically taxing, strict regimens to train. At the time, Artemis was young and leaned on her older sister Jade for support for a while until Jade got tired of how things were and ran away, leaving Artemis on her own to endure the abuse.
However, by the time she was a pre-teen, Artemis eventually was taken in by her mother after those six years, Paula deciding to quit the villain life and hoping for Artemis to have a different life. As it so happened, Artemis had become a long-time fan of Green Arrow and donned her own green costume, becoming a vigilante in Gotham City. At one point, she even helped sidekicks Wally West, Dick Grayson, and newly-awakened clone Superboy. The act of her heroism against Amazo caught the attention of Oliver Queen and Bruce Wayne, prompting them to approach her in order to recruit her to the Team. Thus, her and Green arrow made up a story about her being Queen's niece and his new sidekick before she was given membership to the budding new heroes, but was not initially trusted by many. This was especially so by Wally West.
However, throughout her time on the Team, Artemis would slowly grow and come to trust those around herself, taking part in missions involving Red Inferno and Red Torpedo, the Injustice League, and incidents involving Doctor Fate and crime-fighting in New York due to her budding friendship with Zatanna whom she helped push to join the Team. Eventually, Artemis had the opportunity to truly prove herself after she came to question her position on the Team when she learned Paula had begged Batman and Green Arrow to give her a chance, joining up with a returned Red Arrow on a mission against her father and sister for a mission they were under for the League of Shadows. Though the two escaped and Artemis was forced to botch the mission due to the threat of being exposed. But after a new mission to earn Roy's trust, she finally came clean about her parentage and past after Superboy admitted his connection to Lex Luthor.
Not long after these events, Artemis and Wally seemed to come to an understanding as well, expressing their true feelings for one another while Artemis also earned the mutual trust of the rest of the Team. After the defeat of the Light against the Justice League and the Team, Artemis began dating Wally and the two would decide to retire from heroics during a five-year period. During that time, Artemis moved to Palo Alto to pursue a college degree of double Majors in Human Biology and Comparative Literature, spending her freshmen year on campus before moving into an off-campus apartment with Wally and their pitbull Brucely.
By then, Artemis only became aware on and off about her family's activities, and generally only helped with the occasional mission, such as retrieving Helena Sandsmark, the hunting of old artifacts, and several conflicts with the League of Shadows-including fighting Sportsmaster and Cheshire. The Light also soon became a contender in the fight along with the Reach, eventually such missions resulted in the loss of Aquagirl and devastation to Garth, leading Artemis and Wally to retire fully to focus on their studies. That was until Dick Grayson, now known as Nightwing, came asking for a favor of Artemis and Wally helping Kaldur for a deep undercover mission against the Light, including Kaldur's father Black Manta. Though Wally protested to coming out of retirement, Artemis nevertheless agreed to be "killed", going under the guise of Tigress for the mission and using Zatanna's Glamour charm to resemble someone else entirely.
After a long mission, where Artemis and Kaldur struggled to maintain their cover until necessary, things became hairy after that. Artemis was involved with several bouts between the Light and the Team, as well as the League of Shadows where she discovered the existence of her niece and making slight amends with Cheshire, albeit things still remained rocky. Eventually, things came to a head thanks to Magnetic Field Disruptors planted around by the Reach, threatening to destroy the Earth if not for the 39 heroes that came together to end the threats. However, in the chaos, Kid Flash would give his life, disappearing out of existence when working with Impulse and Flash himself. Devastated by the loss, Artemis officially retired her old costume, stating to Impulse her old self was the partner of Kid Flash, and soon took on the guise of Tigress permanently.
But, when she went to take a break to grieve, Artemis found herself unexpectedly dragged into a much different, more unknown adventure, finding herself transported to Jenesis.
